Prince of Persia is a fantasy platform game, originally developed by Jordan Mechner and released in 1989 for the Apple II, that represented a great leap forward in the quality of animation seen in video games. After the original release on the Apple II, it was ported to a wide range of platforms. The game influenced a subgenre known as the cinematic platformer, which imitated the sprawling non-scrolling levels, fluid animation, and control style.

The Humans is a puzzle game published and released by GameTek in 1992. The goal of The Humans varies per level, but is usually to bring at least one of the player-controlled humans to the designated end area, marked by a red tile. To do this, the player must take advantage of the humans' ability to build a human ladder and use tools, such as spears, torches, wheels, ropes, in later levels, a witch doctor. The Humans was released for many different consoles, with the Jaguar and Lynx versions, published by Atari, titled Evolution: Dino Dudes and Dinolympics respectively. Two sequels have been released: The Humans 2: The Jurassic Levels for Amiga and PC, and The Humans III: Evolution—Lost in Time... for Amiga (AGA) and PC. In 2009, it was rereleased for Windows under the name The Humans: Meet the Ancestors! Upon its release, The Humans was received very well, praised for its originality and decent graphics and music.

The Chaos Engine is a top-down run and gun video game developed by The Bitmap Brothers and published by Renegade Software in 1993. The game is set in a steampunk Victorian age in which one or two players must battle the hostile creations of the titular Chaos Engine across four landscapes and ultimately defeat the Chaos Engine and its deranged inventor.

It was first released for the Commodore Amiga, a version available for AGA Amigas, and later ported to MS-DOS, and the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Atari ST, Amiga CD32, Amiga 500, RISC OS and Sega Mega Drive platforms. In the SNES and Sega versions, the character The Preacher had his clerical collar removed and was renamed The Scientist. The U.S. versions of these two ports were retitled Soldiers of Fortune. A sequel to the game, The Chaos Engine 2, was released in 1996.

The Mask (マスク^?) is a Super Nintendo Entertainment System side-scrolling action video game based on the first Mask movie. The film, in turn, was loosely based on the Dark Horse comic book series of the same name.

Walt Disney's The Jungle Book is a series of video games based on the 1967 Disney animated film The Jungle Book, primarily released in 1994. It was first released by Virgin Interactive in 1993 for the Sega Master System. Conversions for the Game Boy, NES (for which it was one of the last titles released by a third-party developer), Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, Sega Game Gear, Super NES, and PC followed in 1994, and a remake for the Game Boy Advance was released in 2003. While gameplay is the same on all versions, technological differences between the systems forced changes – in some case drastic – in level design, resulting in six fairly different versions of the 'same' game. This article is largely based upon the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis version.

WWF WrestleMania (also known on console versions as WWF WrestleMania: The Arcade Game) is a professional wrestling arcade game released by Midway Manufacturing Co. in 1995. It is based on the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) professional wrestling promotion.

The game featured digitized representations of eight WWF performers who are pitted against each other in fast-paced matches inspired by Midway's Mortal Kombat and NBA Jam games. Commentary is provided by Vince McMahon and Jerry Lawler, who also appear in the game sitting at the announcers' table to the right of the ring.

Acclaim, who published the console versions of the game, developed a follow-up, WWF in Your House for the PlayStation, Sega Saturn, and DOS.

WWF Super WrestleMania is a multiplatform wrestling video game based on the World Wrestling Federation, released in 1992 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and the Sega Mega Drive/Sega Genesis.

Two other 16-bit WWF games, WWF Royal Rumble and WWF Raw, were released which retained the "tug-of-war" style grappling system, where moves are performed by locking up and out-tapping the other player or the computer to execute a move.

WWF Royal Rumble is a professional wrestling video game released by LJN in 1993 for the Super NES and Sega Genesis. Like its predecessor, WWF Super WrestleMania it is based on the World Wrestling Federation. It features a variety of match types, including the newly added Royal Rumble match. The game's roster consists of wrestlers who were top stars in the WWF at the time, and each version of the game has five exclusive playable characters.

The game boasts several new features, including an on-screen meter grappling meter and steel chairs that can be used as weapons. Royal Rumble also adds a variety of new moves, including illegal tactics such as choking and each wrestler's signature finishing moves.

The game was followed up with the Sega Mega-CD release WWF Rage in the Cage and a direct sequel, WWF Raw.

WWF RAW is a video game based on the television show of the same name produced by the World Wrestling Federation, released for the SNES, Sega 32X, Mega Drive/Genesis, and Game Boy in late 1994 and early 1995 by Acclaim Entertainment. It is the sequel to the WWF Royal Rumble game that was released in 1993, and is the final part of LJN's 16-bit WWF trilogy. Players can play either One-on-One, Tag Team, Bedlam, Survivor Series, Royal Rumble, or a Raw Endurance Match.

WWF RAW introduces differences between the characters in that they not only have their own signature moves, but differing move sets altogether (including new over-the-top "mega moves"). The game adds many moves not seen in the previous games, such as a DDT, a fallaway slam, and various types of suplexes. Additionally, wrestlers differ in attributes of speed, strength, stamina, and weight.

The game itself is arcade-like and involves a "tug-of-war" system in which, when the wrestlers lock-up, a meter appears above them and players must repeatedly press buttons to pull the energy away from the opponent's side to theirs. With more energy, they can perform moves with greater impact. Once an opponent's energy is low enough, a player can perform a wrestler's unique signature move.

Worms is an artillery strategy video game developed by Team17 and released in 1995. It is the first game in the Worms series of video games and was initially only available for the Amiga. Later it was ported to other platforms.

Worms is a turn based game where a player controls a team of worms against other teams of worms that are controlled by a computer or human opponent. The aim is to use various weapons to kill the worms on the other teams and have the last surviving worm(s).

World Soccer '94: Road to Glory (also known as Striker in Europe, Eric Cantona Football Challenge in France and World Soccer in Japan) is a 1993 soccer video game for the Super NES which was released in North America by Atlus.

World League Soccer - known in Japan as Pro Soccer (プロサッカー?) - is a multiplatform arcade-like soccer video game (also known as association football) for the Super NES and the Sharp X68000. Both versions of the Super NES game are the same except the title screen logo.

NCAA Basketball - known as World League Basketball in Europe and Super Dunk Shot (スーパーダンクショット^?) in Japan - is a basketball video game which was developed by Sculptured Software for the Super NES.

It was the first basketball game for a console to utilize a 3D perspective. The game uses the Super Nintendo's Mode 7 to create a 3D players' perspective that became the standard for later basketball video games. Sculptured's NHL Stanley Cup featured a similar effect.

According to short-lived Flux magazine, which originated in the United States, this video game was declared to be the 75th best video game of all time.

World Heroes 2 (ワールドヒーローズ2?) is a 1993 fighting arcade game developed and published by ADK with the assistance of SNK (now known as SNK Playmore). It was originally released for the Neo Geo MVS arcade cabinet on April 28, 1993. It is the sequel to the 1992 fighting arcade game World Heroes, as well as the second title of the World Heroes series. It was even the first game with the "ADK" logo labeled within the game after the developer changed from its previous name "Alpha Denshi"; however, the "Alpha" logo was last used on one of the arcade flyers of World Heroes 2.

It was followed by a sequel released less than a year later titled World Heroes 2 Jet.

World Heroes (ワールドヒーローズ, Wārudo Hīrōzu?) is a series of fighting games created by ADK originally created for the Neo Geo MVS arcade cabinets with the assistance of SNK, though some of the games in the series were also ported to the Neo Geo AES and Neo-Geo CD platforms, as well as some non-SNK platforms such as the Super NES and the Sega Saturn. A fifth title World Heroes Pocket was announced for release on the Neo Geo Pocket, but was canceled.

The general premise is that a scientist, Dr. Brown, having perfected a time machine, organized a tournament for various fighters throughout all of history to combat each other. True to this plot, many of the fighters are based on actual historical figures, while some are fictional ones.

World Cup USA '94 is a soccer video game developed by U.S. Gold for Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Super Nintendo, Master System, DOS, Game Boy and Game Gear released in 1994.^[1] The game gives official groups, teams and the fidelity schedule of the championship. The PC and Sega CD versions have digitized stadium photos. The Genesis/Mega Drive version carried the PolyGram Video logo across the stadium advertisement boards in the game.

This was the last official FIFA World Cup franchise game before Electronic Arts acquired the rights in 1996 for the FIFA Soccer series.

Wordtris, stylized as WORDTЯIS, is a Tetris offshoot designed by Alexey Pajitnov and published by Spectrum Holobyte in 1991 for the IBM PC platform. The title was later released for the Game Boy (ported by Realtime Associates) and Super Nintendo game console in 1992.

The object of the game is to build words of three letters or more using the tiles that fall from the top of the playing area. Words can be constructed horizontally or vertically, and multiple words can overlap each other. If the player manages to construct the magic word at the top of the screen, the well will be cleared of all tiles and the player will receive a large bonus.

Occasionally, a free tile (denoted by a "?") will drop. Its letter can be selected by the player (either by typing it in the PC version, or scrolling through letters with a button on the console versions). If the player does not choose a letter, the block will become a random letter when it stops. Eraser blocks will fall and remove whatever letter that they land on (in the SNES version, the eraser is replaced with bombs and vials of acid).

In the Super Nintendo version, players advance from levels "A" to "J."^[1] There is no level after "J."

The background pictures (except the title screen) were taken from an earlier Tetris game by Spectrum Holobyte known as Super Tetris. The in-game music is composed by Paul Mogg who did the DOS version of Super Tetris with Ed Bogas.

Wolverine: Adamantium Rage is a 16-bit platform-action video game released for both the Super NES and the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive in 1994. The Sega Genesis/Mega Drive version was published by Acclaim and developed by Teeny Weeny Games, while the Super Nintendo version had LJN as the publisher, and Bits Studios as the development studio. Both versions of the title were developed separately and differed from one another in some key areas, but their opening storyline and gameplay remain similar. It's one of the first video games to feature a recharging health system,^[1] though Wolverine has been able to recharge his health in previous X-Men games.

Wolfenstein 3D is a first-person shooter video game developed by id Software and published by Apogee Software. Originally released on May 5, 1992, for the PC operating system MS-DOS, the game was inspired by the 1980s Muse Software video games Castle Wolfenstein and Beyond Castle Wolfenstein. A promotional version of Wolfenstein 3D was released as shareware, which permitted it to be copied widely. The game was later ported to a wide range of computer systems and video game consoles.

The shareware release contains one episode consisting of ten levels. The commercial release consists of three episodes, which include the shareware episode and two subsequent episodes. Later releases included a three-episode mission pack titled The Nocturnal Missions. The player assumes the role of a World War II Allied spy William "B.J." Blazkowicz, who is trying to escape from Castle Wolfenstein, a Nazi German prison. After the initial escape episode, Blazkowicz carries out a series of missions against the Nazis.

Wolfenstein 3D was a critical and commercial success. It is widely regarded as having helped popularize the genre on the PC and having established the basic run-and-gun archetype for many subsequent first-person shooter games.
